Goodbye Snow

It's raining out again now. A few days ago, it rained so hard that most of the snow in our yard washed away. There is still a few inches covering much of the lawn, but I think we've done all the sledding we're going to do this year. In the time between my last post and this one, we've done all we can to enjoy the last of the snow. Ready now, for spring -- time to start our seeds for this summer's ambitious garden.

So here's what we've been doing:

One last snowshoe trek around the yard.

The puppy in the front -- our new boxer, Emily! She is not quite 4 months old, and already 25 lbs! Sweet,  snuggly and so smart -- she comes when she's called (mostly) and, I don't want to jinx it, but I think she's house-trained.

Emily and Eva, our beagle, are already great pals. We're going to need a bigger dog bed soon.

(J chose her name -- I was so relieved she didn't suggest Tinkerbell, or some equally cringe-worthy cutesy name).

We built one last snowman -- snowwoman, more accurately. Or snow-mom. J gave her curly hair and said it was me.

And we finally did go ice skating. First on The Muck in Belfast, and then at the impressive new skating rink when we were visiting family on the Cape. I found J some double-bladed strap-on skates at Maine Sport. Fun for an introduction to the ice, but a bit awkward. Next year, real skates.

So I think we've made the most of winter, and I'm ready for things to begin warming up. Wish I'd remembered to plant crocuses. Every fall I intend to do it, and I always forget.
